The Cottage nestles into the hill and is surrounded by beautiful countryside in a tranquil and peaceful situation. The whole area is steeped in history and it is well worth while asking the owners to tell you a little about Strathearn during your stay. The four star grading is easily justified, in fact the whole presentation is much more akin to a 5 star property in our opinion.
Recently renovated and sympathetically and elegantly furnished the cottage has a luxurious, traditional Scottish charm throughout. The Substantial open plan comfortable, drawing/dining room (table to seat 8 - 10) has oak floors and and original open fire. Television and dvd player, music cd player and access to broadband.
There is a very large well equipped modern kitchen with fridge/freezer, dishwasher, microwave and Britannia Cooker etc. A cook/chef can be arranged if required given plenty of prior notice.
The tiled porch at the side entrance has plenty of room for coats and boots with a dryer and washing machine. Four large bedrooms and three bathrooms, two with zip and link beds, a king size bedroom and one with twin beds. High quality linen is provided and beds will be made up to suit, i.e. twins or doubles.
Country sports and pursuits:
Perthshire with its legendary game fair in July offers some of the best shooting, fishing, and stalking to be found in Britain. Likewise, hill walking and bird watching with rare species like Ospreys and Sea Eagles nearby. Gun dog training can be arranged, white water rafting, water skiing, rock climbing, mountain biking and parachuting.
Equestrian sports: The owners offer accommodation by arrangement for horses with grazing, there is a small polo ground and nearby is renowned Strathearn cross country course. The riding out is fabulous with miles of forestry, open hill ground and park land. Guided tours and lessons in other riding disciplines can be arranged.
Golf: There are five golf courses within a few miles of Blairmore including the world famous Gleneagles Hotel Courses where the Ryder Cup will be played in 2014. There are other courses at Perth, Dunning, Auchterarder, Whitemoss, Crieff, Muthill and Comrie, all well within a 30-minute drive. The Perthshire Green Card is recommended to those who like to spend a good deal of time on the Golf Course, offering savings on Green fees, it is avaiable from VisitScotland Perthshire, or see our section on Golf.
Historical Tours: Blair Castle home of the Dukes of Atholl, Scone Palace where ancient kings were crowned, Drummond and Stirling Castles, the Wallace Monument and Edinburgh with its celebrated International Festival and Tattoo to name a few. All within an hours drive, so an easy day out. On the doorstep is Drummond Castle Gardens and Innerpeffray Library, Scotland's oldest lending library and Huntingtower Castle.
The nearby county town of Perth offers good shopping, restaurants and The Horsecross Concert Hall with an excellent repertoire of classical concerts, and a range of events to suit all tastes. There is an excellent Festival of the Arts in the latter weeks of May each year.
